In Grand Tour, Miguel Gomes takes us to Asia in the 1910s, following Edward, a British civil servant who, fleeing marriage, travels through Rangoon, Singapore, Saigon, Bangkok, Hanoi, Shanghai, Tokyo and Hong Kong. While Edward moves away, his fiancée embarks on a parallel journey, revisiting the same places in 2023. The film intertwines past and present, fiction and documentary, reflecting on the relationship between East and West, colonialism and memory.
After the screening, a conversation will be led by Cláudio da Silva, one of the film’s actors. Born in Angola in 1974, he is also a théâtre director, translator, playwright, dramaturg and poet, with a career across Théâtre, Cinema, Dance and Television, receiving several distinctions. He is the co-founder and driving force behind the cultural and ecological association Palettentheater Kollektiv.
Grand Tour is part of EscolaNova’s cinema cycle The Room of the World, a meeting place where cinema becomes a tool for reflection and change, curated by Candela Varas.
