An eight-year-old child suffers because people systematically address her in ways that make her uncomfortable. They insist on calling her Aitor, her official name. And the nickname Coco, although obviously less wrong, doesn't suit her either.
During a summer in the Basque Country, the child shares her discomfort with her family and friends. But how does a mother deal with her child's search for identity when she has not come to terms with her ambivalent parental legacy?
The first feature film by Basque director Estibaliz Urresola Solaguren is a radiant drama. Her wonderfully sensitive work is supported by the moving performances of young actress Sofía Otero, who plays a child in search of a name, and Patricia López Arnaiz, who plays a tormented but tender mother. However, just as a swarm of bees guarantees the diversity of nature, the secondary roles are no less important for the film's heroine, and a predominantly female environment shows her the different ways of being a woman. By adopting more than one point of view, Estibaliz Urresola Solaguren respects the incredible complexity that makes up gender identity and touches on a perhaps less obvious aspect of transition: mentality.
