Straw THEATRE 2026 4th Edition. The Sea Hare

Pedro Quintela · Conception and Design of the Straw Theatre

/ The Project

Straw Theatre is a giant ephemeral and inhabitable sculpture, built under the open sky. It reflects the essence of a way of life where creative freedom and respect for the nature of which we are part become the artist’s oxygen.

The architect’s challenge in creating this 4th edition was inspired by the geometry of a peculiar marine mollusc found in the region, known as the “sea hare”. Its graceful movements, using its lateral fins, represent the fluidity with which we should navigate the currents of life and, much like the concept behind the project itself, symbolise adaptability, regeneration and balance between the material and spiritual worlds.

The choice of straw — an abundant material in the region, whose bales become an integral part of these landscapes at this time of year — is in harmony with all the architect’s creations, which always honour the spirit of the place. True “golden bricks”, borrowed from the earth for a moment in time, will rise to form a temple of emotions that will soon dissolve, yet remain in everyone’s memory.

A tribute to the present moment!

/The Architect

Pedro Quintela, an architect with an unmistakably artistic soul, an admirer of the miracle of life, of the present moment and of the ephemeral, develops his creative process based on a holistic concept.

He firmly believes in the art he creates consciously much like the unquestionable evolutionary and adaptive process that occurs so wisely in nature. Based on this premise, he creates unique works in harmony, which he considers to be perfectly attuned to “O ESPÍRITO DO LUGAR” — the name of the platform created to share and present his work.
